Create a Mission Statement for Your Web Site
Why is your organization in business?
Successful companies can answer that question quickly and simply. They are focused on their products or services. They can smoothly articulate what sets them apart from their competitors.
In other words, they know their mission.
Successful Web sites also must have a clear mission. An essential part of the Web site’s design or review process is the creation of a Web site Mission Statement.
An effective Web site Mission Statement need be no more than a few lines. The Mission Statement for the Web site should be fully synchronized with the Mission Statement and/or marketing strategy for the company.
What to Include in Your Web Site Mission Statement
- Clear statement of the Web site’s purpose
- Brief description of the target audience for the Web site
- Description of the tone, “voice” and/or graphic look and feel
- An overview of some of the main features to be included in the Web site
- Commitment to high quality customer service
A well-written Web site Mission Statement will become the focal point for employees and outside contractors who work on the site. It should help resolve issues between in-house departments involved in the Internet. And it should offer a framework against which the performance of the Web site can be evaluated.
